Community Involvement

Employee volunteering and community involvement is the heart of our business!  The employees of Delaware Heart, & Vascular, PA recognize the importance of staying involved in our community!

Delaware Heart and Vascular’s [DH&V] Softball team roster consists of over 20 men with a strong desire to stay healthy, physically fit and love to play softball.  These men make up the DH&V Travel Tournament team and League Team.  Delaware Heart & Vascular Softball Team was formed back in 2007 when Donald Wood, Manager and Head Coach, and Josh Lloyd, Coach, entered into a partnership together to start their own League Softball Team. Building on the ethics and principles acquired and instilled during his 6 years in the Army National Guard, Donald and then coworker Josh set off to follow their life-long dreams of playing professional sports and began building their team.  The team is made up of good people with the right attitude, a strong work ethic, dedication and commitment, and the desire to have fun while staying physically fit.  After building the Team Roster of members of the local community, which consisted mainly of members of Law Enforcement, Fire Fighters, Department of Corrections Officers and many others, Donald and Josh were faced with the difficult task of finding local sponsors to make this team a reality. Donald and Josh considered themselves blessed with the opportunity to meet Dr. Vincent D. Abbrescia, Managing Partner of the Delaware Heart & Vascular Cardiology Practice, who committed to becoming the team’s major sponsor as well as the major supporter in their softball endeavors and the endeavors of all the members of the community involved with the team.

The League Team is through the City of Dover, Division of Parks and Recreation, which is an Amateur Softball Association of America [ASA] sanctioned league where they play approximately 50 games a year.  These games are played during the week during the Spring and Fall seasons.  Throughout the Spring, Summer and Fall season, the Travel Tournament team plays on the weekends in Delaware and surrounding states including, Maryland, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.  Both the Traveling Tournament Team and the League Team have grown into well established and highly respected organizations throughout the state of Delaware and the region.

The team has progressed and grown over the years since its inception, and in the 2010 Season the team achieved an undefeated record during the regular season.  They captured 3 fall Championship Titles for their Division in Dover, as well as the Fall Championship in New Castle County.  The Tournament Team was ranked the #1 Team in their division in Delaware and they placed 25th out of 193 nationwide teams at the 2010 World Championship Tournament in Orlando, Florida.

When not on at work serving their community, not on the field serving their teammates, and not at home with their families and spouses, the members of the DH&V Softball team are always looking for ways to give back to their community as they represent Delaware Heart & Vascular, PA.  The team members have volunteered their time and efforts at the Shepherds Place Homeless Shelter, the 2011 Go Red for Woman Luncheon and the Heart Ball for the American Heart Association to name a few.
