We provide Point of Care testing in our two Coumadin Clinics. The test is called a PT/INR and uses a small amount of blood from a fingerstick. PT/INR stands for Prothrombin Time and International Normalized Ratio and measures how quickly your blood clots and whether you are getting the appropriate amount of Coumadin.

This Point of Care testing enables our patients to get instant results, onsite counseling and medication adjustments immediately, avoiding delays in therapy or treatment and helping to avoid complications.

Coumadin or generic warfarin is an anticoagulant medication taken to reduce the risks of blood clots forming in blood vessels. Blood clots can cause stroke, heart attack, or other serious conditions such as blood clots in the legs or lungs.

This medication has been the mainstay therapy for over 60 years for patientswith certain types of irregular heartbeats, those with mechanical heart valves, or those with disorders of the clotting system itself .

Our patients are educated on an ongoing basis to ensure safe and effective treatment while taking this medication.
